When your pet becomes sick or injured, it’s natural to feel worried and want answers quickly. Valle Verde Animal Hospital provides urgent veterinary care during our normal business hours for dogs and cats with concerns that should not wait for a routine appointment.

Please call us at (505) 494-5000 before coming to the hospital. Calling first allows our team to learn more about your pet’s condition, confirm availability, and prepare for your arrival. Depending on your pet’s needs and our schedule, we may recommend immediate care at an emergency hospital instead.

When to Call for Urgent Care

You know your pet best. If something seems wrong, we encourage you to reach out. Signs that may require prompt veterinary attention include:

• Repeated vomiting or diarrhea
• Sudden changes in appetite or energy
• Limping or signs of pain
• Coughing or breathing changes
• Eye injuries or irritation
• Wounds, swelling, or bleeding
• Difficulty urinating or defecating
• Possible toxin exposure
• Sudden changes in behavior
• A pet who simply isn’t acting like themselves

Clear Answers and Compassionate Support

Urgent visits can feel overwhelming, so we focus on keeping you informed. We’ll listen to what you’ve noticed, examine your pet carefully, and explain any recommended tests or treatments. When needed, our Diagnostics and Imaging services may help us investigate the cause of your pet’s symptoms and guide the treatment plan.

Some urgent concerns may require a procedure or continued treatment. In those cases, we’ll discuss available options, including whether care through our Surgery services or referral to another facility is appropriate.
